P&O Ferries is a constituent company of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O).

P&O Ferries was formed after the Stena Line sold its 40% share in P&O Stena Line in 2002. P&O Portsmouth and P&O North Sea Ferries were merged into the P&O Ferries operation and managed from Dover. Prior to the P&O Stena joint venture services from Dover, Felixstowe, Portsmouth and Cairnryan were all operated under the P&O European Ferries name. P&O European Ferries was name given to the operations of Townsend Thoresen after the P&O group purcahsed them in 1987.

P&O Ferries is one of the largest operators of cross Channel ferries in the U.K. and one of the most well known and trusted brands. Wherever you're travelling, on holiday or on business, P&O Ferries offers a wide range of routes. P&O Ferries operate routes for freight, and tourist passengers between the UK and Ireland, France, Spain, Belgium and Holland.

P&O Ferries passenger routes consist of the following

  • Dover - Calais
  • Portsmouth - Bilbao
  • Hull - Rotterdam
  • Hull - Zeebrugge

P&O Irish Sea operate a number of routes on the Irish Sea and is managed by P&O Ferries.

Dover-Calais

P&O Ferries operate a fleet of 5 multi-purpose passenger ferries and 1 freight only ferry.

  • The Pride of Dover and Pride of Calais, originally ordered by Townsend Thoresen were purpose built for the route in 1987.
  • European Seaway was built in 1991 for the P&O European Ferries route from Dover to Zeebrugge. This route closed in 2002 and the ship was transfered to the Calais route. She spent 2004 laid up but was returned to service in early 2005 to replace the Pride of Provence(ex Stena Jutlandica, Stena Empereur, P&OSL Provence, PO Provence).
  • Pride of Burgundy was introduced in 1993. It was originally planned that she be a freight ferry to be named European Causeway however she was converted to a passenger ferry by enlarging her super-structure.
  • Pride of Canterbury and Pride of Kent were originally European Pathway and European Highway respectivly and sisters to European Seaway and Pride of Burgundy in its original form. They were converted in late 2002/early 2003 to passenger ferries with the addition of extra superstructure over the previously open stern area.

Portsmouth - Bilbao

The Bilbao route was launched in 1993 by P&O European Ferries using the Pride of Bilbao, formerly the Olympia of Viking Line. It is the only surviving P&O route out of Portsmouth.

P&O Ferries has a total fleet of 32 ships, and P&O Ferries have invested over 400 million to create a fleet of the fastest, most modern ferries to work the Dover Calais route.
